Delayed Business 50 work on tap

In Cole County

Some work that had been scheduled to take place earlier this month on the Business 50 improvements in Apache Flats were delayed, but that allowed for other improvement work to move ahead of schedule.

The planned asphalt work on the eastbound lane of the project did not take place as planned because of a scheduling issue with the asphalt contractor, Cole County Public Works officials said.

But the delay allowed some concrete work to be done in the eastbound lane. Don Schnieders Excavating poured curb and guttering, as well as driveway approaches up to the bridge just past South Binder Lake Road.

Crews are now scheduled to start asphalting the eastbound lane Monday. After that, they will still be working at the bridge and west of the bridge.

The scheduled completion date for the whole project, costing nearly $3.5 million, is Dec. 31, but the majority of the project is expected to be done by the end of November.
