Blue Tigers go 2-0 in HBCU Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Lincoln men's basketball team completed a successful trip to Tennessee with a pair of wins in the HBCU Hoops Classic.

The Blue Tigers defeated Concordia (Ala.) College 57-52 on Saturday to secure consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Lincoln (3-5) had one of its best shooting nights of the season, going 20-for-38 from the floor (53 percent) with seven made 3-pointers. The Blue Tigers were also 10-for-14 from the free-throw line and had just seven turnovers while forcing 13.

Concordia (3-4-1) was limited to just 20 made field goals in 52 attempts (39 percent), and the Blue Tigers forced Concordia to shoot just 33 percent from 3-point range.

Joshua Buie scored 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting to lead Lincoln, while Victor Scott added 11 points and Malcolm McDonald chipped in 10. Buie also dished out four assists and had one steal. Scott also had one steal and McDonald grabbed three rebounds.

Zach Schraeder grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Lincoln.

On Friday, the Blue Tigers kicked off their weekend with an 84-78 defeat of Philander Smith College.

The Blue Tigers had four players in double figures, led by Mike Smith's 27. He made 7-of-14 field goal attempts and scored an additional 11 points at the free-throw line.

Lincoln, which got out to a 35-28 halftime lead, overcame 16 turnovers to pull out the win.

The Panthers (5-2) held a slight 23-22 edge in rebounding, but shot just 39 percent from the floor. The Blue Tigers, meanwhile, shot 49 percent overall and 47 percent from 3-point range while sinking 28 free throws.

McDonald nearly had his second double-double of the short season, scoring 16 points to go with nine rebounds. Blake Ralling also scored 16 and grabbed five boards while Buie added 13 points and four assists.

Now riding a two-game winning streak, the Blue Tigers will try to keep their momentum going at 7 p.m. today at Illinois-Springfield.
