JC man gets 7 years for home invasion

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with a home invasion in June 2013.

Byron Davis, 20, of 300 W. Ashley St., pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and resisting arrest for forcing his way into an apartment at 5209 Collier Court.

His sentence will run concurrent with any other sentence against him.

Cole County Sheriff's Department reports show one of the victims told deputies he opened the door after hearing knocking on the front door of the apartment.

Davis and two others confronted two of the four residents, forcing them to lie on the floor during the robbery.

One victim was struck in the head with a handgun while lying on the ground.

Davis and the others left the apartment, taking with them cash and several electronic devices.

The victims gave authorities a description and direction of the suspect vehicle. After spotting the vehicle, deputies chased it when it refused to stop.

The vehicle eventually crashed into a rock bluff at Route C and Hemstreet Road, and Davis and the others fled on foot before eventually being captured.

A hammer and gun were found inside the vehicle along with some of the items taken in the robbery.
