Patrol says suspect killed in Versailles while tussling with officers

VERSAILLES, Mo. - Authorities say a suspect has been killed in a tussle with law enforcement officers in the Morgan County town of Versailles.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the altercation happened Wednesday after Morgan County deputies and Versailles police officers responded to a report that Randall Roden had assaulted someone in the 18500 block of 2nd Street in Versailles.

The patrol says law enforcement officers stunned the 41-year-old Versailles man twice while attempting to restrain him. But the patrol says Roden fired multiple rounds at the officers from his pistol and that one of the rounds ricocheted and struck a deputy, whose name was not released.

Officers then shot and killed Roden. The patrol described the wounded deputy's injuries as minor.

The patrol says its Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating and that an autopsy is planned.
