For the seventh year in a row, the Helias Show Choir is inviting the public to "Just Desserts," a fundraiser intended to help students travel to their competitions.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Helias Gym.

"The funds we raise help pay for the students' costumes, the bus to competitions and the fees to the music competitions," explained Maria Micke, fundraiser coordinator. Money raised also could help the group travel to New York City in April, where they have been invited to perform.

The event showcases the musical stylings of the Show Choir, as well as other singers and musical acts, including the school's new jazz band.

"This year's theme for competition is "Romeo and Juliet,'" Micke said.

People who attend the event will enjoy a homemade dessert, coffee, tea, hot cocoa or water. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. For $1, attendees can purchase an additional slice of pie or cake, she added.

The event also features a live and silent auction.

"The show choir continues to grow," Micke said. "When it started, there were 21 students. Now there are 30 kids involved, including 15 girls and 15 boys, which is truly amazing."

The event starts at 6 p.m. with light entertainment and the auction. At 7 p.m., the show choir will start their performance.

Among the songs the students have been working on include: "Live While We're Young" by One Direction; "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz; "My World is Empty Without You" by the Supremes; "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars; and "Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters.

The group also will sing a mash-up of "We Built This City" by Starship and "We're Not Going to Take It" by Twisted Sister.

"It really is a fun event," Micke said.
