The Jefferson City Lady Jays are still working things out under new head coach Kristie Douglas-Wiley.

But they're looking pretty good doing it.

"I love these Jamborees because it's a great chance to play somebody beside ourselves," Douglas-Wiley said after Jefferson City went 1-0-2 in action Friday night at Helias. "It's an opportunity to see what we need to work on in practice."

In the four-team Jamboree format, each team played the other three in a pair of six-minute periods.

Jefferson City opened against the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons and finished in a tie at 13.

Megan Foster tossed in eight points for the Lady Jays, while Nicole Martin added four.

The Lady Jays then squared off against the Fatima Lady Comets. A pair of free throws by Martin gave Jefferson City a 17-10 lead before Fatima took the lead with a 9-0 run. A layup by Foster with :27 remaining tied it at 19 and that's where it finished.

Foster finished with 13 points against Fatima.

The final game of the night pitted Jefferson City against Helias.

Jefferson City led 7-2 after the first period and held a 10-3 advantage after a free throw by Alexis Robertson with 2:29 left to play. Helias cut the lead to one at 11-10 with :10 remaining.

But Foster hit two free throws with less than a second left to make the final 13-10.

Lexy Haug finished with five points to lead Jefferson City.

"We saw a lot of different looks tonight," Douglas-Wiley said. "It's going to be good for us to go back and watch the film to see how we reacted and what corrections we need to make."

Jefferson City is slated to open the season Tuesday at home against Sullivan.

"I think what happened tonight will make the girls even hungrier to get better and show people what kind of team we can be this season," Douglas-Wiley said.

The junior varsity game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Fleming Fieldhouse, with the varsity contest to follow around 7:30 p.m.
