JC woman charged with stealing from employer

A Jefferson City woman has been charged with stealing $6,500 from her employer.

Dana Black, 41, is charged with taking the money from August through September from Miller Iron and Metals, where she has been working for the past several years as an office clerk handling payments to customers and balancing the cash drawer, according to police reports.

The owner of the business contacted authorities, saying he saw several tickets had been altered. He said it appeared Black added a "1" in front of the weights and amounts paid to customers and that the amount used to balance the drawer at the end of the day had a "1" added in front, which would create an overage unless she, Black, took the extra hundred dollars.

The owner had tickets and calculator tape showing 65 tickets were altered.

One day in September, the owner copied bills he put into a drawer at the beginning of the day, and Black was found in possession of several of those bills at the end of her shift, according to police reports.
