Public can learn about marketplace health plans today

Insurance coalition coaches Capital City

Federally qualified health centers throughout Missouri are offering educational courses for registration in open enrollment for the Missouri Health Insurance Marketplace today.

These "Show Me Sign Up" classes are free to all and part of the Cover Missouri Coalition's campaign to educate people for their 2015 health plan possibilities, according to a news release from the organization. Officials from the coalition wish to encourage people to sign up for insurance before Dec. 15 so they have coverage at the start of the new year. Open enrollment, however, does not end until Feb. 15.

These classes will teach people how to use the marketplace, how to get in-person help to enroll, and about cost-sharing reductions and tax credits that will lower cost, the release said.

"Enrollment events like these are critical to getting consumers reliable information they need to select the insurance plan that is right for them," said Nancy Kelley, expanding coverage program director of the Missouri Foundation for Health. "Last year, more than 152,000 Missourians enrolled in marketplace health plans with 85 percent receiving financial assistance. We hope that through our statewide education and enrollment efforts that we can help even more Missourians learn about their options and get covered in 2015."

Today, the organization is hosting 19 events in the state, two in Central Missouri. The first is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. The second is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia.
