Schreiber announces intent to run for 5th Ward

Mark Schreiber has announced his intention to run for the 5th Ward seat on the Jefferson City Council.

Schreiber announced his candidacy in a news release Wednesday evening. He intends to file for the council seat currently held by Ralph Bray, who will resign from the council Dec. 31. Bray recently was elected to the county recorder of deeds office, and his duties begin Jan. 1.

Schreiber said he is not seeking a nomination to fill Bray's seat until the April election.

Schreiber is a former deputy warden of the Jefferson City Correctional Center and is known as a local historian. He has been a long-time guide for tours of the Missouri State Penitentiary.

Filing for city offices officially begins Dec. 16.
