U.S. 50 Bridge repairs to begin on Thursday

Emergency repairs to the U.S. 50 bridge over Big Horn Drive west of Jefferson City will begin on Thursday.

The repairs to the bridge will require various changes to traffic patterns throughout the remainder of the year. All repairs listed are weather permitting:

· At noon on Thursday, the eastbound 50 on ramp to Big Horn Drive will be closed. The on ramp will remain closed until the emergency repair project's completion in late December.

· On Nov. 24-26 and Dec. 1-2, lanes will be shifted on Big Horn to allow workers to make repairs underneath the bridge. Two-way traffic on Big Horn will be maintained during the repairs.

· A complete closure of Big Horn is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to remove and replace bridge girders. Weather permitting, repairs are tentatively scheduled for completion by the late evening of Thursday, Dec. 4. During the closure, motorists are advised to access 50 via Horner Road or Old Lohman Road to South Country Club Drive.

· A message board will be placed near the work zone to alert motorists to closures and changes in traffic patterns related to the repairs.

MoDOT asks travelers to allow extra time when traveling through this area, especially during peak travel times, such as morning and evening rush hours.

In October, a truck hauling a loader hit the bridge and damaged the bridge's concrete girders, making the repairs necessary. As a result of the accident, the eastbound passing lane at this location is currently closed. The lane will remain closed until the completion of the repairs in late December.
