JC woman indicted on sex crimes

The Cole County Grand Jury has indicted a Jefferson City woman on multiple sex crime charges.

Court records show Misti Fitzwater, 34, 2007 St. Louis Road, is charged with one count of second-degree statutory rape, two counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Court officials said there are two victims involved.

Because it is a grand jury indictment, the probable cause statement, which gives background as to why Fitzwater was arrested and charged, is sealed.

Charging documents, which are open public record, show all the crimes occurred between December 1, 2013, and May 30, 2014.

On the rape charge, the victim is listed as being under the age of 17.

On the sodomy charges, the victims are listed as under the age of 17.

On the endangering the welfare of a child charges, Fitzwater is said to have aided the victims to engage in the offense of possession of a controlled substance.

She was arrested Tuesday, then was released from custody after posting a $10,000 surety bond.

Her case was assigned to Circuit Judge Jon Beetem. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 30.

A check of the Casenet court records system also shows two protection orders were filed against Fitzwater on Oct. 31. One is for adult abuse stalking and the other was under the Child Protection Act.
