Games played on Nov. 18, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Dakari Johnson scored 11 points, Andrew Harrison had 10 and No. 1 Kentucky used a dominant defense to blow out No. 4 Kansas 72-40 in Tuesday night's Champions Classic.

The Wildcats (3-0) shot just 43.1 percent from the field, but they were so good on defense that it didn't matter. Kansas (1-1) shot just 19.6 percent from the field and was 15 for 27 at the line in the storied program's worst offensive performance since a 61-45 loss to Kentucky on Dec. 1, 1998.

Wayne Selden Jr. had nine points for the Jayhawks, and Cliff Alexander finished with eight.

The Wildcats led by as much as 35-17 in the first half. After Kansas closed to 38-28 at the half, Kentucky opened the second half with six straight points and continued extending the lead throughout the second half.

No. 4 DUKE 81, No. 19 MICHIGAN STATE 71

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Quinn Cook scored 19 points and Jahlil Okafor had 17 to lead Duke past Michigan State.

The Blue Devils (3-0) have won each game this season by double digits.

Michigan State was led by Brendan Dawson with 18 points and Travis Trice with 15. But the Spartans (1-1) couldn't get enough stops and struggled to contain Okafor, the nation's top freshman who didn't disappoint in one of the premier early-season showcases.

Okafor finished 8 of 10 from the field and had five rebounds.

After the Spartans closed to 51-48 with 12:19 to go and Okafor picked up his fourth foul three minutes later, it was Okafor's teammates who picked up their games.

Tyus Jones scored all of the points in a 6-0 run to push the lead to 64-51 and the Spartans never got close again.

No. 9 VIRGINIA 75, SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 55

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Malcolm Brogdon and Justin Anderson scored 17 points each and No. 9 Virginia closed the first half on a 22-6 run and beat South Carolina State.

It was the 13th consecutive victory at home for Virginia (3-0), which has coasted in each of its first three games. A big halftime margin once again allowed coach Tony Bennett to substitute liberally and experiment with his lineup for much off the second half. Anthony Gill added 11 points and Mike Tobey had 10 before taking seats early in favor of younger players.

The Bulldogs (0-3) were led by Karon Wright with 15 points, all coming on 3-pointers in the second half. Greg Mortimer added 10 points and Gabe McCray nine, but the team shot just 32.8 percent (19-58).

The Cavaliers began to put away the game at the midpoint of the first half. They led 19-14 until a driving basket by Brogdon sparked the big run to finish the half. Brogdon had eight points in the run, Anderson and Gill five each.

No. 11 WICHITA STATE 71, MEMPHIS 56

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Ron Baker scored 21 points to lead No. 11 Wichita State to a win over Memphis, pushing the Shockers regular-season win streak to a nation-leading 33 games.

The neutral-site game at the Sanford Pentagon was the first of the season for the Tigers and the second for the Shockers, who defeated New Mexico State 71-54 on Nov. 14.

No. 15 VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH 87, TOLEDO 78

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Commonwealth pulled away in the final three minutes to register a hard-fought victory over Toledo.

Senior Treveon Graham and junior Melvin Johnson each scored 22 points to lead the Rams (2-0), who finally took control of the game with nine unanswered points down the stretch.

Toledo (1-1) stayed even with VCU for most of the evening but too many turnovers in the closing minutes allowed the Rams to escape with a win - their 21st straight at the Siegel Center.

Center Nathan Boothe led the Rockets with 18 points but was held to four in the second half as he got into foul trouble. Guard Julius Brown contributed 17 points, mostly on 5 of 7 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.

There were nine ties and the lead changed hands 12 times, before the Rams pulled away.

No. 16 SAN DIEGO STATE 53, NO. 25 UTAH 49

SAN DIEGO (AP) - JJ O'Brien had a strong second half and finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, helping San Diego State to a victory against Utah in a matinee between cold-shooting teams that had a crazy final 47 seconds.

O'Brien, who played for Utah as a freshman, had no points and three rebounds in the first half, and SDSU trailed 18-17 at the break. The Aztecs looked like a different team in the second half, starting when O'Brien grabbed a rebound and then made a reverse layup 40 seconds in.

Angelo Chol scored six points during a 9-0 run that put SDSU (2-0) ahead for good.

The teams combined for 18 points in the final 46.8 seconds.

No. 20 OHIO STATE 74, MARQUETTE 63

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Kam Williams scored 15 points and Shannon Scott added a career-best 14 assists to lead Ohio State past Marquette.

Steve Taylor Jr. had 20 points for the Golden Eagles (1-1), who fell behind early and could never catch up.

Kam Williams, who missed last season after contracting mononucleosis, came off the bench to hit six of eight shots from the field, hitting his first three 3-pointers.

Ahead 33-26 at halftime, the Buckeyes used their press to extend the lead. They twice went on 6-0 runs, the latter with Scott driving through the middle of the lane twice for layups and Kam Williams adding a 10-foot floater to push it to 56-42 by the 10-minute mark.

Jake Zuilhof led Central Arkansas (0-3) with 12 points. Albert Christensson had 11 points, and Jordan Howard scored 10.
