Missouri court rejects appeal in 2006 killings

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and death sentence of a Jefferson City man for the 2006 slayings of his cousin and her husband.

Brian Dorsey had raised several claims that his attorneys were ineffective in their investigation of DNA evidence used against him and for not pursuing a defense that he had a diminished mental capacity.

The high court rejected those arguments Wednesday. The court upheld Dorsey's first-degree murder convictions for fatally shooting his cousin, Sarah Bonnie, and her husband, Benjamin Bonnie. The couple was found dead on Dec. 24, 2006, in the bedroom of their New Bloomfield home, where Dorsey had been the prior evening.

Dorsey received a death sentence for each slaying.
