William Woods cross country finishes second, fourth

HANNIBAL - The William Woods women finished second out of 11 teams in the American Midwest Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, while the men's team was fourth out of eight.

Columbia College won the 5-kilometer women's race with 34 points, while William Woods was close behind with 57.

Emily Deeken (Jefferson City High School) came in seventh for Columbia College, finishing in a time of 20:28.1.

Grace Young (Russellville High School) paced eighth for William Woods (20:40.9), while teammate Alex Apperson (Eldon High School) came in 25th (21:42.3).

On the men's side, Columbia won with just 26 points, while Hannibal-LaGrange was second with 65. William Woods finished with 101 points, 28 points behind third-place finisher Park.

Kaleb Wilson (Linn High School) paced the Owls by finishing the 8-kilometer race third overall in a time of 26:45.4.

Deeken, Young and Wilson earned all-conference honors by virtue of finishing in the top 10.

The Columbia College teams, in addition to Wilson as an individual, will compete Nov. 22 in Lawrence, Kan., in the NAIA National Meet.
