Blue Jays football ends season with win

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Westminster Blue Jays wrapped up their season with a 28-21 win against Martin Lutheran College on Saturday.

Austin Kempker (Blair Oaks High School) got the Blue Jays on the board first, catching a 12-yard touchdown pass with 5 seconds left in the first quarter.

Kempker added another score in the fourth quarter when he hauled in a 27-yard pass. He ended the day with six catches for 98 yards.

Mike Washington (Jefferson City High School) scored the last touchdown of the game, snaring a 24-yard pass with 1:53 remaining that was the difference in the game.

Washington led all players in receptions (nine) and receving yards (121).

C.J. Vaughan (Jefferson City High School) had two catches for 5 yards and also clinched the win when he intercepted a pass with 44 seconds left and returned it 22 yards.

Levi Powers (South Callaway High School) had nine tackles for the Blue Jays, four solos and five assists. He had three tackles for loss, including 11/2 sacks, and forced a fumble.

Bret Robertson (California High School) added six tackles for Westminster, three solos and three assists. He also had a pass breakup. Kole Rackers (Blair Oaks High School) had one assisted tackle.

The Blue Jays finish the season at 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
