CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A suburban St. Louis caregiver has been convicted of killing a quadriplegic man and setting a fire.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1tMvwQH) reports that 41-year-old Tyrone Benedict of Maryland Heights is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5 for first-degree murder and first-degree arson. He was convicted on the charges after a trial this week.
Firefighters responding to a February 2001 apartment fire in south St. Louis County found 40-year-old Mark Woods in bed with multiple stab wounds, including one through his neck. Woods had been paralyzed from the chest down and relied on machines and caregivers. He had hired Benedict as a caregiver about a month earlier.
Woods' mother said she had heard them arguing over money and once heard Benedict say to Woods, "You will be sorry."
