Missouri launches site tracking bridge closures

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's Department of Transportation has added a page to its website where motorists can check for unscheduled bridge closings.

The agency said Thursday it created the page following a series of unexpected closures from collisions or safety issues identified in inspections.

The Web page -- www.modot.org/bridges -- offers recommended detours. It also includes details on why a bridge is closed, how it will be fixed and how the repairs will be funded.

Chief Engineer Ed Hassinger says bridge closures likely will continue because of declining funds to fix aging bridges.
