Local man charged in counterfeiting effort

A Jefferson City man is charged with attempting to use more than $1,000 in counterfeit money.

Timothy Anderson, 22, of 920 Taylor Drive, is charged with one count of forgery.

Court documents show officers went to Dillards at Capital Mall on Monday where Anderson attempted to pass $500 in counterfeit money while trying to buy clothes.

A search found Anderson had $1,020 in counterfeit money on him.

He told police he got the money from a friend and knew it was counterfeit.

Anderson told police he was not sure if any more counterfeit bills were in circulation at area businesses.
