Cole County Public Works officials said the west end of the Business 50 improvement project in Apache Flats is being paved in asphalt base today.
This will open the road back up either later today or tomorrow morning. Tomorrow the contractor will start milling the old asphalt on the last section of roadway adjacent to the baseball fields. This will take the whole day, but traffic will remain open on this section tomorrow and through the weekend. Starting on Monday, the last section will be closed to westbound traffic and the contractor will start removing the subgrade and prepare it for curb and gutter and pavement. Westbound traffic will have to use the Pioneer Trail to Rainbow Drive detour. Eastbound traffic will still be open and this will be a one-lane, one-way road eastbound.
