Our Opinion: Web site designed to inform voters

News Tribune editorial

Information is among those rare commodities that is both precious and easily attainable.

We encourage voters to be informed before they go to the polls Tuesday.

To that end, we have enhanced our print coverage of the upcoming election with the addition of a web site, www.midmoelections.com.

Perhaps you missed a news story on a specific issue or race, or perhaps you want to review the ballot to avoid being surprised at the polling place. Or, if you're like us, you may have read something in a printed news story but, now that you've recycled that edition, you have no easy way to check those facts.

The site contains information on the issues and candidate races Central Missouri voters will decide Tuesday. Ballot information is available for each of the 10 Mid-Missouri counties within our coverage area. They include: Cole, Callaway, Boone, Moniteau, Morgan, Miller, Maries, Camden and Gasconade.

Other features include: Descriptions of the four proposed amendment to the Missouri Constitution; sample ballots; voter information; including polling times and locations; endorsements; and details about political parties.

Another effort to ensure voters have all the information they need before hitting the polls Tuesday will be a full page voter's guide in our Sunday News Tribune. The guide will feature important issues for every candidate in every race in Cole County, as well as arguments both for and against each amendment.

We believe the greatest asset in a democracy is a fully informed voter and urge you to get as much information as possible before casting your ballot Tuesday.
