Rhine, Bartel top qualifiers from area schools this weekend

In Class 3 track championships

Sara Rhine and Landon Bartel will have their chances to leave their marks this weekend in the MSHSAA Class 3 Track and Field Championships at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

A lot of chances.

Rhine of Eldon and Bartel of Southern Boone are both in four individual events in the championships that start today.

Rhine will compete in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles as well as the long jump and high jump. The junior will run today in the preliminaries of both hurdles events, in which the top eight of the 16 qualifiers advance to Saturday's finals.

Rhine will compete in the long jump this afternoon and the high jump Saturday. She is the defending state champion in the high jump and finished third in the long jump.

Bartel's championships will start today with the triple jump before taking part in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles. On Saturday, the senior will compete in the long jump and high jump. Bartel is the defending state champion in the high jump.

Two other area athletes have qualified in two events - Dylan Norton of California is in the boys 110- and 300-meter hurdles and Hannah Crow of Southern Boone is in the girls 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Other area schools with competitors include School of the Osage and Versailles.
