Jays' Clausen to play in state tennis tournament today

David Clausen of the Jefferson City Jays will start play today in the MSHSAA Class 2 state tennis singles tournament.

Clausen advanced to the state tournament, which will be played at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, by winning the individual district singles title and his sectional match.

Clausen will face Jacob Kanter of Parkway Central in the opening round. Kanter lost his first-round match in the state tournament last season.

There are a total of 16 players bidding for the tournament title in the two-day event.

Clausen is the first Jefferson City singles player to advance to the state tournament since 2009.
