Alewine, Hawkins honored

Central Missouri senior Erin Alewine and Missouri S&T senior Adriel Hawkins were selected Thursday to the Capital One Academic All-District team.

Alewine (Jefferson City High School) was named to the Academic All-District team for the second year in a row after claiming her second national championship in the indoor pentatlon.

Alewine was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year and also claimed All-America honors in the outdoor heptathlon.

Alewine graduated with a 3.58 GPA while majoring in dietetics.

Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) was an All-America performer in the 200-meter dash during the indoor season and a three-time Great Lakes Valley Conference champion.

The 2014 season was a decorated one for Hawkins, an engineering management major. He earned the GLVC Track Athlete of the Year honor for the indoor and outdoor seasons after setting three school records and earning All-America honors in the 200 in the indoor season.

Hawkins finished sixth at the NCAA indoor meet in March and broke the school record with a time of 21.49. Hawkins qualified for the national meet in the indoor 60 and outdoor 200. He also won both 200-meter events at the GLVC Championships and took top honors in the outdoor triple jump.

Alewine and Hawkins are eligible for Academic All-America honors to be announced in June.
