ELDON, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays will have participants in six events while the Lady Jays will be in 10 events in this week's Class 4 state track and field championships after sectional action Saturday.
Both the Jays and the Lady Jays finished second in the Class 4 Sectional 3 meet. On the boys side, Jefferson City tied with Rock Bridge behind Nixa. The Rock Bridge girls captured team honors.
Mervyn John of the Jays advanced in three events - the 110- and 300-meter hurdles as well as the triple jump.
Kezia Martin won two events for the Lady Jays - the long jump and triple jump.
A top-four event finish is needed to advance to state.
The Class 4 state championships start Friday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
