Frey sets record in pole vault

All eyes were on Alesa Frey on Saturday, as the Dwight T. Reed Stadium crowd watched her set a Class 2 girls pole vault record of 12-.5.

The event was delayed from its 11 a.m. start to 2 p.m. because of rain, and the Class 2 boys pole vault event did not begin until almost all other events had already ended. However, Frey, a Brookfield senior, held the crowd's attention during her record-setting performance.

Frey was the only record-setter on day two of the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 1-2 Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City. There were 16 other repeat winners on Saturday.

• In Class 1: Missouri School for the Deaf's Nick Jones repeated in the boys 100-meter dash, La Plata's Seth Brown repeated in the 1600-meter run, Osceola repeated in the boys 4x100-meter relay, Stewartsville's Dominick Fleeks repeated in the 400-meter dash, Bevier's Seth Shurvington repeated in the 300-meter hurdles, New Haven's Seth Schenck repeated in the 800-meter run, Salisbury repeated in the girls 4x800-meter relay, Mound City's Emily Wedlock repeated in both 100- and 300-meter hurdles, Midway repeated in the girls 4x200-meter relay and St. Elizabeth's Allie Heckemeyer repeated in the triple jump.
