ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Missouri Department of Corrections has reversed its decision to ban a magazine featuring an up-close look at the state's death penalty.
The prison system banned St. Louis Magazine in response to a story entitled "How We Kill." The department's censorship committee said that the article contained information "which can be used to instill violence or hatred" among inmates. The article also described the January execution of Herbert Smulls.
KMOX-AM (cbsloc.al/S0iAbk ) reports that the magazine successfully appealed the decision on Thursday. The reversal came one day after Missouri death row inmate Russell Bucklew's scheduled execution was put on hold by the U.S. Supreme Court, which ordered a lower federal appeals court to re-examine the case.
