Man gets 60 years in business college shooting

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for shooting the financial aid director of a downtown business college.

Thirty-five-year-old Sean Johnson was sentenced Friday after being found guilty in April of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the 2013 shooting at Stevens Institute of Business & Arts, which prompted a school lockdown. Financial aid director Greg Elsenrath was wounded once in the chest but survived.

Johnson told a city jury that he was upset because his student loans were running out and he was several credits short of graduating. He also said he had stopped taking medication for mental health problems.

At the time of the shooting, Johnson was on probation for attacking a cab driver in St. Louis County with a box cutter.
