Helias finishes 2nd, 3rd at districts

WASHINGTON, Mo. - The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders advanced multiple athletes from Saturday's Class 3 District 5 Championships at Borgia High School.

The Lady Crusaders will send athletes in six events to next Saturday's sectional.

Helias won three events at districts - Kylie Frank was first in the 1,600-meter run while Kaitlyn Shea won the 3,200-meter run. In addition, the 4x800-meter relay team of Frank, Shea, Molly Light and Macy Randolph also won.

Frank finished second in the 800-meter run, while Shea was second in the 1,600. Light was fourth in the 3,200, as was Laura Schieber in the triple jump. The Helias 4x200-meter relay team of Gretchen Rauch, Randolph, Bailey Francka and Katy Macy also took fourth.

Helias finished with 86 points to take second behind Union (108).

On the boys side, Helias won a pair of relays. The foursome of Jordan Walker, J.C. Szumigala, Josh Woodruff and Ryan Tannehill won both the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.

Woodruff was second in the 110-meter hurdles and in the 200-meter dash. Walker was second in the 400-meter dash, while Szumigala was third.

Helias was third in the team standings with 66 points. Blair Oaks was first with 92.5, with Owensville second wat 74.

The top four finishers in each event advance to sectionals.
