PHOENIX (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt homered twice, had a career-high six RBIs and set a team record with five runs scored, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks bash the Los Angeles Dodgers 18-7 on Saturday night.
The Diamondbacks hired Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa as chief baseball officer before the game and beat up on Clayton Kershaw (2-1) once it started, scoring seven runs in the second inning off the two-time Cy Young Award winner.
The Dodgers came storming back with a five-run sixth to pull within 9-7, but Arizona kept hitting to set a team record for runs.
Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, added a two-run shot in the eighth and had two doubles to finish 4 for 5.
Arizona hit five homers and had 21 hits, including a team-record 13 for extra-bases to emphatically end a seven-game home losing streak to the Dodgers.
MARLINS 5, GIANTS 0
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Giancarlo Stanton homered and tripled to lead Miami past San Francisco.
Tom Koehler (4-3) struck out seven in seven innings to finally win in five tries away from South Florida after coming into his outing 0-3 on the road to start the year. He allowed four hits and walked two in his first road victory since Sept. 22 at Washington.
Garrett Jones hit an RBI triple, Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a sacrifice fly and Adeiny Hechavarria singled in a run for Miami. The Marlins improved to 11-2 at AT&T Park since 2011.
Tim Lincecum (3-3), coming off his best start of the year with an 11-strikeout performance in a season-high 7 2-3 innings to beat Atlanta on Monday, never found his groove.
PADRES 8, ROCKIES 5
DENVER (AP) - Seth Smith homered against his former team early, Carlos Quentin added a two-run, pinch-hit home run, and San Diego hung on to beat Colorado.
San Diego staked Robbie Erlin (3-4) to a 6-1 lead by roughing up previously unbeaten Jordan Lyles (5-1), who walked a career-high six batters in a season-low 3 1-3 inning outing.
The Rockies got an early home run from Troy Tulowitzki and chipped away at the Padres' lead, pulling to within a run on Carlos Gonzalez's two-run double in the sixth inning.
Quentin rebuilt the cushion in the seventh, following Yasmani Grandal's two-out single with a drive off reliever Chris Martin that sailed into the left field bleachers for his first home run of the season.
Huston Street, also a former Rockie, got three outs for his 13th save in as many opportunities.
CUBS 3, BREWERS 0
CHICAGO (AP) - Edwin Jackson struck out 11 in seven innings and Welington Castillo hit a two-run double to lead Chicago to victory.
Starlin Castro also added an RBI double for the last-place Cubs, who won just for the third time in 13 games.
Jackson (3-3) had his best outing for the Cubs since signing a four-year, $52 million deal before the 2013 season, allowing four hits and walking one.
Hector Rondon pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save in four opportunities.
Milwaukee starter Matt Garza (2-4) was tagged for three runs on four hits. The former Cub had his second straight start that he allowed three runs in the first inning.
CARDINALS 4, BRAVES 1
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Rookie Kolten Wong keyed the St. Louis offense with his legs and Shelby Miller had his strongest outing of the season.
Wong scored on Yadier Molina's sacrifice fly just beyond the infield to tie it in the fourth. He bunted for a hit and drew a wild throw in St. Louis' go-ahead, two-run rally off Aaron Harang (4-4) in the sixth.
The Cardinals matched their season high with their fourth straight win.
Miller (6-2) allowed a run and five hits in seven innings, matching his season best with seven strikeouts, including B.J. Upton three times.
Trevor Rosenthal fanned two in the ninth inning, with Upton striking out a fourth time, to earn his 13th save in 14 chances.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing a call that led to a bunt double play. He could face a fine for charging out of the dugout a second time.
PHILLIES 12, REDS 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Cole Hamels threw seven sharp innings to earn his 100th career win, Domonic Brown had a career-best five RBIs and Philadelphia snapped a four-game losing streak.
Cody Asche broke Philadelphia's 23-inning scoreless streak with a two-run double that sparked a six-run fourth. Cesar Hernandez capped the scoring with his first career homer.
Hamels (1-2) gave up one run on three hits, striking out 10 on 90 pitches.
Hamels was stuck on 99 wins since last Sept. 14. He improved to 9-0 against the Reds, including the postseason. The Phillies are 12-0 when Hamels starts vs. Cincinnati.
Homer Bailey (3-3) gave up six runs and seven hits in 3 2-3 innings.
METS 5, NATIONALS 2
WASHINGTON (AP) - Juan Lagares drove in three runs with a homer and a single, Bartolo Colon allowed five hits in eight innings and New York snapped a three-game losing streak.
Lagares came in 5 for 27 in his past 11 games. He singled in a run during a three-run first and homered with one on and one out in the third to give New York a 5-0 lead.
The Mets' outfielder added a defensive gem, robbing Jayson Werth of a home run with a leaping catch against the wall in center.
Colon (3-5) won for the first time in 10 tries against Washington.
Gio Gonzalez (3-4) took the loss.
INTERLEAGUE
YANKEES 7, PIRATES 1
NEW YORK (AP) - Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer, Zoilo Almonte connected in his first start of the season and the Yankees went deep five times for a victory over the Pirates.
Brett Gardner and Alfonso Soriano also homered off a struggling Edinson Volquez to back five scoreless innings from David Phelps (1-0). Brian McCann added a two-run drive in the eighth.
Starling Marte homered and had three hits in his return to the starting lineup for the Pirates.
Volquez (1-4) gave up six hits - four homers - and no walks in 6 1-3 innings, dropping to 0-4 in his last five starts.
