Middle schools run for the Red Baton

Lewis and Clark athletes edge Thomas Jefferson in track and field

Lewis and Clark edged Thomas Jefferson to win the annual Run For The Red Baton Meet in Jefferson City on Thursday.

The Trailblazers and Patriots both won two divisions between the seventh and eighth grade boys and girls track teams. In the case of a split, all scores are added together.

Lewis and Clark tallied 268 points, while Thomas Jefferson finished with 223.

The Lewis and Clark seventh-grade girls team was the overall points leader with 87. The Lady Patriots eighth-grade team was next in line with 72. The Thomas Jefferson seventh-grade boys team tallied 70 points, while the eighth-grade team finished with 67.

Lewis and Clark seventh-graders Valerie Hurt and Sasha Campbell both won three events to lead the rest of the field. Lauren Tuck won two events in that division to help pace the Patriots.

Maleek Jackson (Lewis and Clark) and Thomas Nield (Thomas Jefferson) were both double winners in the seventh-grade boys division.

Isaac Summers (Lewis and Clark), Cole Biesmeyer (Thomas Jefferson) and Mason York (Lewis and Clark) all won two events in the eighth-grade boys division.

Niya Slughter, McKenzie Gourley and Stephanie Fisher, all from Lewis and Clark, also won two events apiece in the eighth-grade girls division.
