JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri lawmakers have sent the governor a bill to correct some mistakes in a massive overhaul of the state's criminal code that became law this week.
Gov. Jay Nixon allowed the overhaul to become law without his signature after securing a commitment from lawmakers that they would pass an additional bill to correct errors. The House passed that separate measure 134-10 on Friday and it cleared the Senate a day earlier.
Among other technical changes, the measure fixes an error the governor said could have suppressed evidence from trial that an adult drunk driver refused to take a breath test.
The criminal code overhaul creates new classes of felonies and misdemeanors, and reorganizes crimes to fit the new penalty structure.
