Mallow receives academic honors

Lincoln senior Steven Mallow has been selected to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District first team.

The honor, which is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America and released on Thursday, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes based on performance in the class room and on the field.

Mallow helped the Blue Tigers win their sixth-ever, and second straight, PGA Minority Collegiate Championship last week.

Mallow finished with a three-round total of 220, carding rounds of 71, 75 and 74, placing him in a tie with Gary Natal of Texas A&M-International for the lowest score among all players in the three-round, three-day tournament. Natal ended up winning the individual scoring title in a one-hole playoff.

Mallow also helped Lincoln post five top-five finishes at tournaments between the fall and spring seasons, including leading the Blue Tigers to a third-place finish at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men's Golf Championship on April 23.

Mallow, a business administration major with a 3.87 cumulative GPA, will now be placed on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. A first, second and third-team selection will be voted on later this month.
