Four-vehicle crash shuts down eastbound US 50

A four-vehicle accident Thursday morning caused some traffic delays in Jefferson City.

Police reports show the accident occurred at 7:43 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 west between Missouri 179 and Dix Road.

The investigation revealed traffic had been slowing down for a stalled vehicle on the right shoulder of eastbound 50.

A truck hauling a trailer loaded with shingles was traveling eastbound and driven by Miguel Vargas, 45, California. The driver was not able to slow his vehicle with traffic and crashed into the rear of a vehicle driven by Jaqabandhu Halder, 45, Jefferson City.

Halder's vehicle was forced into a clockwise skid and pushed into a vehicle driven by Noelle Shaldone, 22, Jefferson City. Halder's vehicle continued to skid and hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Louise Bowen, 45, Jefferson City.

Halder's vehicle stopped in the center of the highway. Bowen's vehicle was forced forward and spun clockwise and off the right side of the roadway coming to rest in the ditch. Bowen suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. All drivers and occupants were wearing their seat belts.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 were shut down and restricted to one lane for approximately one hour as emergency crews and MoDOT personnel cleaned up the highway.
