Smoke damage from fire forces family out of home

An attic fire left a Jefferson City family needing a place to stay Wednesday night.

Fire officials said they were called to the house at 1104 East High St. around 7:20 p.m.

The fire was contained to the attic, but there was significant smoke damage throughout the home. There were no injuries reported.

The local Red Cross found the home's family a place to stay.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but fire officials said that since this was an older structure, there could be many things that could cause the fire. Electricity to the home was disconnected as a precaution.
