Tennis: Hickman 5, Jays 4

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays dropped a 5-4 decision Wednesday to the Hickman Kewpies in the semifinals of the Class 2 district team tennis tournament.

The Jays and Kewpies split the six singles matches. Winning for Jefferson City were David Clausen (6-2, 6-2), Dan eBiesemeyer (6-0, 4-6, 6-1) and Joey Mendez (3-6, 6-4, 6-4). Falling for the Jays were David Steinmeyer (5-7, 1-6), Spencer Bone (2-6, 6-2, 6-7) and Josh Morris (3-6, 3-6).

Clausen and Bone won their doubles match 6-2, 6-4. Steinmeyer and Morris lost 2-6, 6-7, while Biesemeyer and Mendez fell 2-6, 4-6.

Jefferson City ends its team season at 14-9. The Jays will play in the individual district tournament Saturday in Columbia.

Hickman advances to take on Rock Bridge for the district team title today.

Rock Bridge defeated Helias 5-0 in its semifinal match Wednesday. No individual results were available.
