Tuscumbia wins title

TUSCUMBIA — The Tuscumbia Lions went 2-0 in their inaugural Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend.

Tuscumbia claimed a 8-0 win against Smithton in the opener, before holding off Green Ridge 4-0 in the nightcap to win the title.

Orrie Patterson allowed two hits and struck out 11 in seven innings to get the complete-game win in the opener.

Zane Humphreys was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI, while Quentin King was 1-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Lions at the plate. Nate Simmons also collected a hit for Tuscumbia, which scored three runs in the first, three in the second and two in the fifth.

Humphreys pitched Game 2, allowing two hits and striking out 12 in seven innings to collect his third win of the season.

Nick Grimwood was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Wyatt Ahart was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Humphreys added two hits to lead the Lions on the offensive end. Patterson chipped in with a hit and Ben Wilson drove in a run to help pace Tuscumbia at the plate.

Tuscumbia (10-10) will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Belle.
