Kaysie Scheuler of Helias goes up to head a pass away from St. Francis Borgia's Katherine Mudd during Saturday's game at the 179 Soccer Park in Jefferson City.

The numbers all favored the Helias Lady Crusaders.

Helias outshot St. Francis Borgia 28-4, including a 15-4 advantage in those on goal. Helias finished with a 13-2 edge in corner kicks.

But Helias came out on the short end of the only number that really matters, the scoreboard.

Borgia scored two minutes into the second half and made that goal stand up in a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon against Helias at the 179 Soccer Park.

"The focus wasn't there," Helias coach Brad Dempsey said. "There are no excuses, they beat us 1-0 and they're going home happier than we are.

"They put forth the effort they need to win and we didn't capitalize on our chances."

Dempsey said the effort was tough to see coming.

"With high-school kids, it can happen any day," he said. "We played hard, we put together some quality soccer, we just had one breakdown in which we lost focus."

The game's lone goal came on Borgia's first shot of the game when Allison Wilson fed Park Wehking, who drove to the net for the score.

Helias had multiple chances to tie it, including a five-minute stretch in which it had four corner kicks. But the Lady Crusaders weren't able to put a shot on net.

Josie Krawitz got the shutout in goal for Borgia (7-12), its fourth of the season.

Two days ago, Dempsey successfully appealed to have Helias moved from the No. 2 to the No. 1 seed in the Class 2 District 10 Tournament which starts in a week at Bolivar.

"I'm a little embarrassed about that now," Dempsey said. "Our team has a lot of weight on its shoulders, we have a lot to prove now."

The Lady Crusaders (14-8-1, ranked No, 5 in Class 2) have two road games remaining on the regular-season schedule. Helias will play Tuesday at Hickman and wrap up the schedule Thursday at Rolla.

"It's a great group of girls, they'll respond," Dempsey said. "That will lead to more of the results that we're looking for. But right now, I'm just glad we have practice on Monday."

Helias won Saturday's JV game 4-0.
