Jays' winning streak comes to an end

Doubleheader produces a loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays had their 10-game winning streak come to an end during a Saturday afternoon baseball doubleheader in Kansas City.

Jefferson City used a three-run seventh inning to claim a 4-3 against Park Hill, before falling to Staley 5-4 in Game 2 of the afternoon.

The Jays (21-6) hadn't lost a game since April 21 at Hickman.

Jake Walker received the win in the opener, allowing three runs (no earned) on five hits while striking out five in six innings.

Travis Hennessy recorded the save after throwing a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Ripken Dodson was 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Jake Walker, Adam Grunden and Rylie Klosterman added two hits apiece to lead the Jays at the plate in Game 1. Gabe Marcantonio and Brenden Ogletree both added a hit and an RBI to help pace Jefferson City, offensively.

Jefferson City took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third during Game 2, but the Jays couldn't get anything going offensively after that. Staley answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth and four in the fifth to put Jefferson City away.

Ogletree and Jackson Walker were both 2-for-3 and with an RBI to lead the Jays. Grunden chipped in with an RBI, while Jake Walker and Jake Pridgin both added hits.

Bret Jaegers received a no decision after surrendering four runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out one in 4 1/3 innings.

Jacob Weirich was tagged with the loss, allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Hennessy pitched a scoreless first inning without allowing a hit.

Jefferson City, which has two regular season games remaining, will host Sedalia Smith-Cotton at 5 p.m. Monday at Vivion Field.
