Hawkins wins Gale Bullman Award

ROLLA - Missouri S&T senior Adriel Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) was a co-winner of the Gale Bullman Award at the annual M-Club Awards Banquet on Thursday night.

The Bullman Award, named for the university's former director of athletics and long-time football coach, is the most prestigious award given to a Missouri S&T athlete. It is traditionally given to a senior student-athlete who has displayed outstanding character and has excelled on the playing field and in the classroom.

Hawkins earned All-America honors in the indoor 200-meter dash with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships in March. He was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Hawkins, who was also the co-winner for the Most Valuable Player on the men's track and field team, captured both 200-meter titles and won the outdoor triple jump to help the Miners win the conference tournament two weeks ago. He broke the school record in the 200 in the indoor season with a mark of 21.49 seconds, and again in the outdoor campaign in 21 seconds flat.

Hawkins also set a school record in the 60-meter dash during the indoor season.
