Man sought by Columbia police may have committed suicide

A man believed to have been the subject of a manhunt in Columbia on Friday night apparently has committed suicide on the University of Missouri campus.

University Police officers were called around 11:45 a.m. today to the Trowbridge Livestock Center where the dead man's body was found, according to a report by the MU News Bureau. Investigators report there were no initial signs of foul play and the death appears to be self-inflicted.

Police believe the dead man may be the same person who fled from law enforcement on Friday evening, triggering an extensive manhunt. The victim is not being identified pending notifications to the family.

Columbia police issued the following statement about the case::

Late yesterday, The Columbia Police Department received a report from a female victim of a peeping tom in the 2500 block of Bluff Boulevard that actually occurred on May 1, 2014 at approximately 5:30 A.M. The female victim identified the subject from above as the person who was looking in her bedroom window when she was getting dressed after taking a shower. The Columbia Police Department made phone contact with the male subject that officers needed to speak to him about this as well as other incidents in the area. The subject was aware officers were looking for him.

When officers tried to make contact with him last night he ran in the wooded area NE of Rock Quarry Road. At this time, the Columbia Police Department is still gathering information to see if this is related to the other recent incidents as well as the incidents in 2013. The investigation is still ongoing.

The suspect's description in Friday's investigation reportedly matched that of a suspect sought in the investigation of a series of early-morning break-ins and sexual assaults that may be connected to a similar spate of attacks last year.
