Local woman gets shock detention, probation

A Jefferson City woman has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $100,000 from her former employer in September 2011.

Sara Hilavacek, 31, of 2904 Kenborg Hills Road, was charged with one count of felony stealing.

She was placed on five years supervised probation, must serve 60 days shock detention in the Cole County Jail and pay $97,181 in reimbursements.

A Jefferson City Police Department statement shows Hilavacek admitted to stealing from Cowley Distributing, 732 Heisinger Road.

The losses were discovered by an employee who worked in the same area as Hilavacek.

Hilavacek was able to steal the funds by entering her name along with another name and have checks made out.

She would cash the checks into her account at a local bank or give the checks to a friend to cash.

Hilavacek also admitted to using the company's credit card for personal use.
