Blue Tigers earn academic honors

Six members of the Lincoln softball team were named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday.

Amanda Coffelt, Shantae Duren, Kelsey Hight, Sam Kircher, Erin Sommerer and Jessica Wolken all received recognition from the league for their performance in the classroom.

All four of Lincoln's active seniors - Sommerer, Coffelt, Duren and Hight - were named to the honor roll, which requires student-athletes to carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have completed at least two full semesters at a league institution, excluding summer terms.

Sommerer is a physical education major from Jefferson City with a 3.087 grade point average. She is joined by Coffelt, a utility player and an elementary education major from California, who currently has a 3.418 grade point average.

Duren, a psychology major from Wardsville, and Hight, a physical education major from California, are the other two seniors. Duren has a 3.26 grade point average, while Hight has a 3.81 average.

Kircher, a junior from New Franklin, is a biology major with a grade point average of 3.473. Wolken, a middle school education major from Jefferson City, leads all six players with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average.

The MIAA Academic Honor Roll is the second league honor of the postseason for Duren, Kircher and Sommerer, all of who were chosen as all-league honorable mentions on May 1.
