Your Opinion: Bill insults federal officers

Dear Editor:

Maybe I'm the only one but I've felt really angry about our Legislature's attempt to be rankly disrespectful and insulting to federal officers. I'm a life member of the NRA, and I own guns, but I'd like to make a few points.

First, every federal officer has extensive training in constitutional law before they put on a badge and it continues through their career, because it doesn't matter what kind of arrests you make if they don't stick. However, guessing whatever the Missouri Legislature might think is unconstitutional could be anybody's guess.

Second, this legislation appears to offer endless fun and a potential get-out-of-jail-free card to any drug dealer, bank robber, kidnapper, terrorist, etc. whose conviction includes a gun crime. If their conviction is declared "unconstitutional," they impeach all the evidence that's associated with it and potentially exclude it, plus they can sue and have a blue print to follow.

Third, these men and women are sworn to enforce the law without fear or favor and go up against actually scary people. That they would hesitate to do their duty is insulting (and dumb).
