WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Central Missouri athletic department announced the winners of the 2014 Dr. Peggy Martin and Vernon Kennedy Awards for the outstanding female and male senior student-athletes of year at the annual athletics banquet on Monday.

Erin Alewine, a member of the Jennies track and field team, was one of the winners of the Dr. Peggy Martin award.

Brad Wilson, a member of the Mules baseball program, was one of the winners of the Vernon Kenney Male Athlete of the Year award.

Alewine (Jefferson City High School) is a two-time national champion and 11-time All-American. She captured her second straight national championship in the pentathlon at the Indoor Track and Field Championships in March and holds the second best pentathlon score in NCAA Division II history.

Alewine has helped the Jennies to four top-10 finishes at the NCAA National Championships, including two fourth-place finishes. She is a two-time United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association Regional Field Athlete of the Year recipient.

Alewine has been just as successful in the classroom, carrying a 3.58 GPA in dietetics with a double minor in foods and fitness and wellness. She is a Central Region All-Academic Team member, an Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic Honor Roll member and an MIAA Scholar-Athlete, as well as serving as the President of the Central Missouri Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Wilson (Helias High School) has been as steady as they come for the Mules during his career. An All-MIAA outfielder, he has hit over .320 in each of his last three seasons and sports a .337 career batting average. He currently leads the team in hitting with a .382 average, home runs (5) and is second in RBI.

Wilson has helped the Mules to a 168-46 record in his four seasons, including 131-27 in MIAA play. Wilson will be a four-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as he graduates this spring with a degree in accounting.
