Holts Summit woman arrested for selling marijuana

A Holts Summit woman has been charged with selling marijuana in April in Jefferson City.

Tonya Powell, 41, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows officers stopped Powell after she left the Best Value Inn on Jefferson Street, which has been the site for several recent drug overdoses and arrests.

The department's K-9 unit was called in to do a search, and the dog alerted the presence of a narcotic odor on the driver's side of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle yielded a handbag with one ounce of marijuana, some packaged for sale, along with scales, pipes and scissors.

Powell later admitted to selling marijuana.
