Prep Baseball: Helias, Jays frosh split

The Helias and Jefferson City freshmen split a doubleheader Thursday night at the American Legion Sports Complex.

In the opener, Helias posted a 6-4 victory.

Drew Boessen threw a complete game with three strikeouts for Helias, while Matthew Dampf had one hit, one RBI and one run scored.

Grant Wood had three hits for Jefferson City, while Allan Roettgen, Gavin Strobel and Isaac Moreland had two each.

In the second game, Jacob Weirich threw a one-hitter as Jefferson City won 11-0.

Weirich and Brandon Williams had three hits apiece for the Jays, while Gunner See, Wood and Strobel had two each.

Tyler Cassmeyer took the loss, working three innings and giving up three earned runs. Cole Czarnecki had the lone hit for the Crusaders.

Helias (9-8) will play Saturday in the Mexico Tournament, while the Jays (24-4) will host Battle on Monday.
