SEC baseball honors Missouri's Steele

Missouri's Keaton Steele was named the co-Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday.

The junior closer is the second Tiger to earn the honor this season, as Brett Graves did so previously. The St. Joseph native turned in a pair of dominating performances against No. 21 Auburn, earning a pair of saves to help Mizzou win its first SEC series of the year. The saves give Steele seven on the season, good enough for second in the SEC. It was the Tigers' first series win on the road over a ranked opponent since 2009.

In Thursday's game, Auburn put runners on base in every inning until the right-hander came in. He threw a perfect eighth and ninth innings, not allowing a baserunner and working through the innings on just 22 pitches. He then tossed a four-out save Friday, once again not allowing a baserunner.
