Missouri softball falls to Georgia

COLUMBIA - The Missouri softball missed out on a chance to complete a three-game sweep of 13th-ranked Georgia on Sunday, dropping a 6-2 decision at University Field.

Georgia scored a run in the first and three in the second to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Missouri got both its runs in the fifth inning, while Georgia scored its last two in the seventh.

The Tigers, ranked 16th in the nation, got two hits and two RBI from Sami Fagan, while Ashtin Stephens chipped in with a pair of hits.

Tori Finucane (10-5) pitched the first four innings while taking the loss. She allowed four runs, all of them earned, on six hits and three walks. She struck ou four.

Casey Stangel, the winner of Saturday's game, pitched the final three frames. She allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Georgia is now 30-5 overall and 6-3 in the Southeastern Conference, while Missouri is 25-9 and 4-5.

The Tigers will play a three-game series at Mississippi State starting with Friday's 6 p.m. contest.
