Westminster wins pair

FULTON — The Westminster Blue Jays took two of three games from Blackburn College in a weekend series that concluded Sunday.

Westminster swept a doubleheader Saturday, winning 6-3 and 6-5 before falling 10-2 on Sunday.

Deion Hughes (Helias High School) was the starter and winner in the first game to improve to 3-0 on the season. He allowed two runs, both earned, on five hits and one walk while striking out 11. Hughes also had three hits to pace a 10-hit Westminster attack while scoring two runs.

In the second game Saturday, Mike Washington (Jefferson City High School) drove in a pair of runs to lead Westminster, one on a solo home run. Danton Hughes (Helias High Schol) had two hits and an RBI in the contest.

Blackburn picked up its first win of the season in Sunday’s victory. Deion Hughes had an RBI, while Washington led the team with two hits.

Westminster (8-3) will play a three-game series starting Friday against Greenville College in Greenville, Ill.
