Cougars, Owls split

COLUMBIA - William Woods senior MacKenzie Bowden threw a complete-game shutout as the Owls split a American Midwest Conference doubleheader with Columbia College last Thursday.

Bowden (Jefferson City High School) allowed three hits and struck out 12 in seven innings to lift William Woods to a 4-0 win in Game 1.

Taylor Richter (Blair Oaks High School) responded by limiting the Owls to four hits and two runs to lead Columbia past William Woods 3-2 in Game 2.

Richter, a senior, struck out five and walked two in seven innings as the Cougars improved to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Bowden also pitched two scoreless innings for William Woods (16-9, 5-1) in the nightcap.

Columbia freshman Paxton Welch (Helias High School) allowed three earned runs on four hits and struck out four in 51/3 inning of relief in Game 1.

Lindsey LeCuru (Helias High School) tallied two hits and drove in two runs on the day to lead William Woods at the plate. Hannah Campbell (Russellville High School) also had a hit and 2 RBI while Shelby LeCuru tallied two hits and an RBI for the Owls.

Marli Hayes (Jefferson City High School) had two hits and drove in two runs for Columbia.

The Cougars will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to take on Embry-Riddle today.

On Sunday in Mobile, Ala., William Woods dropped a doubleheader to Spring Hill College 1-0 and 2-0.

Bowden was the tough-luck loser in the opener when the game's lone run came home in the eighth inning on a wild throw during a rundown.
